A bit of a delayed announcement, but anyhow.
In January, Barnes and Noble Shakespeare, the series I've been helping develop for the past two years, finally reached stores. This is just a "soft launch"—there'll be much more hoopla in July, when four more titles are released, making for an even ten plays—but the first six are now available in your local B-ampersand-N. Eventually, we'll be releasing all 38 plays, plus two volumes of poetry.
I've been involved in this project from the very beginning, helping set the table of contents, compiling massive style guides, offering feedback on design—I even selected the endpapers (Hollar's "Long View of London," in case you're interested.) I'm most involved, however, in commissioning and editing the "unsigned" work in each edition: i.e., material not provided by our series editor or the individual volume editors. This includes the majority of the footnotes and glosses, as well as essays on the plays' afterlives. (I wrote "Inspired by Romeo and Juliet" and "Inspired by Hamlet" myself.)
They're really beautiful books, and particularly good for classroom use and general readers. Look Ma, I made money with my incredibly esoteric masters degree!
